Minor League Cricket (MiLC) announced today that the defending champions, the Silicon Valley Strikers, will host a special Silicon Valley Cricket Festival on Sunday, Aug. 14 at Wilson High Field in Santa Clara (1840 Benton St.). The event, which will feature high-level T20 cricket featuring international stars, is free for all fans to attend with gates opening at 1.30 p.m.
The 2 p.m. matchup in the Toyota Minor League Cricket Championship (MiLC) presented by Sunoco will see the Strikers host the Hollywood Master Blasters in a Western Division matchup. The Silicon Valley hosts have powered through the 2022 season in defense of their 2021 title, winning 11 of 12 matches so far and topping the Western Division standings.
International star players expected to be on view from the Strikers includes India’s Unmukt Chand, the Strikers’ captain, Sri Lanka’s Shehan Jayasuriya and former USA Cricket captain Saurabh Netravalkar. The Master Blasters’ roster features Nepal’s Prithu Baskota, former USA international Hammad Shahid and youngster Ayan Desai.
Fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet with international star cricketers, enjoy food from local food trucks, music, giveaways and other entertainment. New fans of the game will have the opportunity to learn about the world’s second most popular sport from roving “Cricket 101” ambassadors throughout the day. Registration for the event is encouraged.
The action in Santa Clara will take place on the penultimate weekend of play for the Toyota Minor League Cricket Championship’s regular season. The season will run for eight weeks of regular season action nationwide this summer and conclude with Conference Semi-finals held Aug. 20-21 and Finals Weekend over Aug. 27-28.
